This is a great deal on a Selmer Paris Super Action 80 Series 1 baritone saxophone with original lacquer and good pads. It has an overhaul midway through its usable life, and it seals well and plays great with black kangaroo skin pads and hollywood resonators. It comes in a nice ProTec baritone case that will protect it well in shipping. It also includes a special order ($500-800) Paraschos wood neck (looks like rosewood to me) that gives you a darker, more classical leaning tone and also tunes as well as the original neck on the horn. Those are not cheap, and it’s really cool to get the second, completely different baritone tone from the second neck. You’ve got your fair share of honest wear from playing on this horn. It was owned by a pro saxophone player with a classical background and this horn got him through school performing on baritone. A new Selmer Paris baritone will run you $15959 plus tax as of today, and this horn is less than a third of the price. The series 1 is actually built better than the modern Selmer Paris, as it has keys made in France and pivot screws that work like they were supposed to (this is a whole can of worms that I’m not going to get into now, but tldr, the Series 1 is the best built modern Selmer). If you’re not needing a perfect horn and you want a top quality baritone that is the price of a Yamaha 52 but is a Selmer Paris, with that lyrical, medium-dark French core to the tone and a big fat low register, excellent intonation, and Selmer keywork, it would be hard to beat this one for the price. Plan on spending at least a couple of hundred dollars every 6 months on replacing some pads or doing minor tune ups and you won’t be disappointed. It’s a solid horn and priced to sell!
