GS SLANT is an extremely precise copy of my BEST vintage Otto Link Slant Tenor mouthpiece. More precisely, it's a copy of an original facing 7* Florida Slant Signature Otto Link Tone Edge tenor mouthpiece in perfect original condition.
This is the version of the 'Slant' that nearly everybody wants. It's the most iconic and desirable hard rubber tenor mouthpiece ever made. When I hear people describing their ideal tenor tone online, it's most frequently a description of what a good vintage Otto Link Slant sounds like: Dark and powerful, with a good amount of focus and projection. Brightens up and projects when pushed, but never thins out. Super even across all registers. Tunes great on almost any saxophone vintage or modern. That's what the GS SLANT gives you, for only 15% the cost of an original vintage Otto Link Slant Tone Edge tenor saxophone mouthpiece.
Compared to the GS RESO, the GS SLANT is a little brighter and punchier (but not bright), and more focused (though still warm and full). It has an instantly recognizable 50's-60's jazz tenor tone. We'll post hi-fi sound samples of the GS SLANT on a variety of brands of saxophone very soon! See below for the GS SLANT vs Vintage Slant A/B video.
If you're a pro looking for the best do-it-all jazz tenor mouthpiece for an affordable price, I think you'd be hard pressed to beat the GS SLANT. It really captures the magic of the original mouthpiece, and that is saying a lot. It's the only Slant copy I've seen that exactly copies a vintage Slant. Even upgrading to a vintage Link Slant at 8x the price wouldn't actually sound better! And if you're an amateur or younger player looking for your first good mouthpiece, this gives you the chance to jump right to an excellent mouthpiece that is completely hand faced, without messing with a bunch of machine faced intermediate mouthpieces.

The GS-Slant is terrific. It has everything that I have been hoping to find. After buying (and selling off) dozens of vintage mouthpieces that people say are great, but I hated, I have come to the conclusion that your GS mouthpieces are the only ones worth looking at. I have the GS-Mark II also and have loved it for over a year for all my R&B and funk gigs , so I figured it was worth trying the Slant to get a little more of that jazzy sound. I was not disappointed. The same incredible quality went into both mouthpieces and I can't recommend them more highly. I'm tempted to order a New York alto too, before the price goes up. Thank you for all your research and hard work Brian!
I just received this mouthpiece and it played great right away! I’ve mostly played on metal mouthpieces because I’ve never had a hard rubber style mouthpiece that feels and sounds right to me, this mouthpiece however, feels and sounds incredible! It surpassed my expectations in every way. Thank you for the wonderful mouthpiece!
I play a Selmer Balanced Action tenor from the late 30's. This is the one mouthpiece I've found so far that really does allow me to do everything. I play in a range of groups from small combo jazz and big band to a 10-piece funk and rock band - I don't feel out of place anywhere when I'm using this. What's better is that I can get the sounds out of it that I want for each of those settings. Experiment with reed choices - they really do change things on this piece. It plays loud, it plays soft, it plays bright, it plays dark, and it subtones - and most importantly, it plays IN TUNE on my persnickety vintage horn.
I first tried the Slant in a 7* but found it a bit too small for my taste - no biggie because the exchange process was super easy to get an 8* (which is absolutely perfect for my playing style!) It's a fairly large tip opening for some players, but it feels much smaller for whatever reason. It will take all of the air I give it, but is still easy to control.
Thanks for a great mouthpiece!
I bought the Slant in a 5* and I’m continually surprised at how much I love it.
Tone: Gorgeous and flexible. I can get a “hard” clear tone on demand or lay back and get a smooth buzz around the core. It’s such a balanced tenor sound. I like to take a 4-5 note phrase and play it in as many ways as I can. The sound is fat and warm but it doesn’t lack “oomph” when I push it.
Playability: such an easy piece to play. Overtones pop right out. Dynamics feel like it’s on a slider as opposed to some pieces that have a point where p or pp get hard to play. It’s as loud as I need it to be. There is a real feeling of finesse and control.
I love the feel and look of the resin. Lining up a reed is easy for me even with middle aged eyes (I use my finger tips to get it close and carefully bring it into position). The rails and table are lovely. It likes every reed I’ve put on it.
This mouthpiece is a player! I own a GS NY Meyer, a GS Reso and the GS Slant (my favorite). The quality is THERE. I just ordered another one , it’s that good. This piece will outplay me for years at least.
Excellent mouthpiece. My tone improved dramatically on day one of using this piece. It gives me amazing projection and also a nice airy tone quality. 10/10 would recommend. Thanks Brian!
