Brian is such a class act. He runs Getasax with the utmost professionalism and he won't sell you something that you don't need just to make a buck. He believes in developing and maintaining relationships. Through the years, I have purchased many horns from Brian and they were all in the condition described, were all very well maintained (they played exceptionally well right off the bat) and his prices are very fair for today's market. Getasax is awesome!
I recently ordered a RESO Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece - FG Special 7* and two tenor ligatures - one for the RESO and one for an Otto Link Super Tone Master metal mouthpiece.
All three items are very high quality and deliver on the most important thing - SOUND!
The GREATLY improved reed control from the ligature for the Otto Link metal mouthpiece over the stock single screw ligature brought a smile to my face after blowing the first few notes. Confidence in hitting all notes from low to high register is at a new level because the ligature secures the reed so well to the mouthpiece.
The sound from the GS RESO tenor FG Special 7* coupled with the ligature is SOOOO warm and deep. It plays like a dream on my Yamaha 875-EX Custom and really opens up the sound on my Mauriat PMXT 66-R.
I highly recommend these products and thank Brian Curry for promptly answering my various questions about them and guiding me to a great purchase.
I recently received a GS Supersonic tenor 8* mouthpiece from Get a sax. com. Wow, what a powerful well rounded Mouthpiece. The Facing on this piece really was great. It allows a player a very warm tone with an edge when you need it. It also displays naturally feeling Altissimo capabilities. When I said well rounded, I really mean it, this piece is great for Jazz, Rock ‘n’ roll, and funk. Thanks Brian for providing players with great vintage style mouthpieces at such a good value.
i purchased a Woodstone tenor in 2018 from GetASax and it was a great experience so when i was looking to buy a new Yanigasawa i naturalky came back to GetASax. found exactly what i wanted at a great price, it was shipped immediately and arrived in perfect condition!! flawlwss service and great products i will always come back to GetASax!!!
Amazing product! I purchased a 5* GS Slant for my Selmer Mark VI Tenor. It has a really fantastic sound. So much better than any other mouthpiece I’ve tried. Getasax has excellent service, too.
My experience and purchase of a sopranino saxophone at GetASax was excellent. I spoke with Brian & Tyler about my needs and budget and they steered me to the most appropriate instrument. Aside from them being nice folks, I found Brian & Tyler to be professional, knowledgeable, patient and accommodating. An excellent purchase all around as I purchased the right instrument at the right price. I highly recommend them.
First thank you for copying these amazing vintage pieces. I am not a international musician, so spending $1000 or more for a vintage mouthpiece is totally out of the question. My GS RESO is flawless in the hand work . Thank you agan
When I started my search on selling my friends 1963 Selmer Mark VI Tenor SaxAphone, I had little hopes. Iv never owned such an instrument and had no idea about what to expect for the instrument space. I came across Brians page and started reading reviews and I was intrigued. He was so quick to answer, I thought it must of been a scam. We spoke only through text for the first two days after exchanging pictures and he requested a few others from different angles. He gave me a price that my friend was happy with and the next day he sent me a detailed list of shipping instructions. The most stressful part of the experience was the packaging, but if you follow his instructions to the detail you will have no issue at all. The hard part is sending the saxaphone with no money, but Brian will help you to make a bill of sale with your county that he and you will both sign creating a paper trail. He also pays for shipping all you have to do is pay for the packaging which was $30. It just so happened that Brian lives about 10 minutes from my friends in Durham so I felt an extra layer of protection. I sent the Saxaphone on a Thursday, and received the money on the following Monday.
If you have any skepticism I will personally answer my phone. I own an operate a business of my own, in the Tampa Bay area. I will happy vouch for Brian.
Brian & GetASax: Truly great service! First of all, Brian found what I wanted (Selmer Supreme tenor) MUCH faster than any of the 5 or 6 other places I tried. Then, the price was a bit lower than some of the others. Also, he kept in touch via email throughout the entire process so that I always knew what was going on with the order. Maybe best of all, he did a fantastic thorough setup at no charge since I got the sax from GetASax. I can't think of anything I wish had gone differently, from first inquiry to delivery.
Selmer Supreme Tenor Sax: Absolutely fantastic horn!! Easy blowing through whole range of the horn including altissimo, most in-tune horn I've ever owned, gorgeous to look at, and sounds great.
First, thank you Brian for the courteous and timely manner handling my purchase. As a full time tenor man playing a solo gig 5 nights a week, consisting of 250 standard, jazz and oldies tunes I was hoping for a great smooth playing, reed friendly and slightly darker piece than my current mouthpiece. The Reso7* FG is just that. I'm a believer that your "sound" is a most important aspect of your playing and effect on your listeners. *****
does it all!
Brian was congenial, knowledgeable, prompt and thorough from the first contact to the end of the transaction. I have left my older Selmer alto saxophones with him for the opportunity of other fine musicians to be a custodian for two wonderful instruments made by master craftsmen of the past. One 73 and one 85 years ago. Live on! Music is a blessing.
It’s important to me to leave a review for Get-A-Sax.
I’m an international customer which complicates everything and in the world we live in it’s foolish to part with your hard earned money without diligence.
I will say I had bought a mouthpiece from Get-A-Sax in the past some years ago for sub $100 so thats all the experience I had.
But this King Super 20 purchase was way more significant in terms taking a risk.
Brians communications to my enquiries were brief. I didn’t know how to take that and I worried a bit. The worry was completely unnecessary and I would not hesitate to come to Gat-A-Sax again if I’m in the market for anything.
I get it now…..
There is no need for lengthy drawn out communications if the item is what you want.
The website of course gives you comprehensive and accurate pictures and I always accepted that but then you start to think about shipping costs and how it will be packed etc. so plenty to contemplate and you think you could use some reassurance.
Well let my review reassure you.
The sax verses the pictures = Exact
The shipping = quick and not cost prohibitive (2 days door to door to the UK)
The Packing ? Well there is an article on the Knowledge section of the website that I stumbled across after I’d already committed to the deal. Read that and if that doesn’t put your mind at rest nothing will.
You see this is clearly how Get-A-Sax do business 100% of the time. What you see is what you get and lets face it what you see is excellent stuff.
If you see something you like and are serious about it JUST DO IT.
i've played the FG reso 7* and the 7 Slant replicas.
good job.
the resoFG has a really good tone. low frequencies are gorgious !
the Slant is powerfull as an OL doesn't.
i'll try a 7 (100) Resochamber.
I have bought several instruments from Brian and also sold him a couple. Brian is very honest and straightforward, and the horns I got from him are always in perfect condition, and shipped in a super protective packaging so that they play perfectly upon receipt. If you are interested in one of his horns, I would suggest to contact him before hand and discuss it. He can give advice on whether or not the specific instrument you are considering is the best for what you want/need. He also has a tremendous knowledge of saxophones and of the market, and he sometimes knows of horns available that are not even listed on his site. Also if you are interested in selling he sometimes knows people who are in the market for specific models. Finally his 3D printed mouthpieces are awesome...So very happy with my purchases and will come back if I ever need another horn.
Let us start with WOW, great mouthpiece. Makes playing my old 1920 Buescher C-Melody a dream. Smooth easy voice from top to bottom with good intonation. Take the sax from the piano nights, out on to the stage with the big band.
The only issue is the bore for the receiver. Measuring in at 17.0mm, it is a bit big on the Buescher neck. (Stock mouthpieces are at 16.18mm). So, I had to recork the neck (or use paper). Even a new cork by itself was loose; the solution was to add three-quarter wrap 1/64" cork under to fill it out. This gave it a near perfect fit without any sanding.
We had a great experience purchasing my son's intermediate sax from Get-A-Sax. The instrument was in great condition, shipped quickly, packaged well (more on this in a moment), and communication from Brian was great. Would work with him again in a second and are so pleased with the new horn.
I did want to share a note that might be helpful for other inexperienced shoppers out there (probably a small percentage of users here, but hope to save another kindred soul from a bit of trouble). The keys on the sax were very carefully secured with wedges of cork to keep them in place during shipment. My son, in his eagerness to play his new instrument, ended up bending two of the keys as he was trying to figure out why the sax wasn't working right and started pulling on the keys. This was totally our fault and just required a quick fix from a local repairman. Be sure that you know what you are doing, though, before you try to use the instrument. I wish we had let his instructor inspect it first!!
I just purchased the GS New York Meyer 7 Alto Mouthpiece and was blown away by how it plays. I have played a New York Meyer from the mid '50s for over 30 years, and Brian's copy does everything my original Meyer does plus a lot more. The articulation on Brian's copy is super crisp, and plays doodin' jazz articulations effortlessly. And it plays in tune! It is also a versatile piece and capable of producing a wide range of tone colors from subs to screamin' altissimo. And it plays in tune! (worth repeating) It lives up to Brian's description in every way, and I couldn't be happier with it.
The best alto mouthpiece I have ever played! It has everything, every color, every nuance. I have had great experiences with Getasax. Everything they sell is top notch, and high quality.
Brian was extremely professional. I originally purchased a beautiful ybs-52, and when I changed my mind Brian unpacked the Yamaha and shipped me the Couf. The horn is beautiful, plays beautifully, a wonderful bari sax! His horns are beautiful as seen in his photos, which I noticed are more clear and detailed than others. His prices are very reasonable too. GetaSax will be the first place I go to for my next horn.
I just played through the YSS-82ZRS that arrived today, and it's fabulous. The setup is immaculate, and the horn just sings. Plus it's a real looker.
This is the fourth horn I've bought from Brian, the others being a pair of Buffet clarinets and a Selmer tenor saxophone. Each instrument is great, and Brian's customer service is fantastic. Well done!
Thank you, Brian, for your excellent service, fair price, careful shipping. I am very satisfied with the transaction.
I have been hunting a sax and mouthpieces all around the internet, The products of getasax are superb, exceptional client service, they love what they do and care about the client, that is in itself a clear advantage to all competitors. keep going!
Like so many other sax players I have been looking for the holy grail of mouthpieces. I am only a semi-pro player but over the past 20-30 years I have collected a box of about 30 assorted mouthpieces for bari, tenor, alto and soprano. I'm now a bari player and think I have 1-2 pretty good mpcs for bari and range of good alto ones ( if I can stop myself going sharp up the octave on my very late Mk VI and Conn Connqueror 26M), the soprano I now never play and the tenor is my 'comfort' horn but my mpcs are all too bright. Let me announce that today my GS Reso 7* arrived and I have found my holy grail of tenor mpcs. On my cheap Wallstein everything was mellow, in tune with a great subtone. I just couldn't stop playing! I am now preparing to get out my 5-digit Mk VI that has not seen the light of day for about 10 years but I'm scared that the sound may be so good my heart may not be able to cope. Thank you Brian. Sign me up for any alto and bari mpcs you may be planning for the future.
