About to get a full overhaul by Matt Stohrer!
Are you looking for a wonderful Selmer Mark VI tenor that costs less than it should? And that is original lacquer, and that is from the absolute best vintage of VI? My personal VI tenor is a '59, as are the tenors of several other collectors and dealers that I know. There are plenty of good VI's in other years, but 1958-60 tends to be the spot many people end up if they try a ton of Mark VI's, and 1959 above all. This Mark VI was one owner until it came into GetASax from the wife of the original owner. The horn is in excellent condition with nice honey gold original lacquer. The only thing it lacks is engraving. There were some unengraved Mark VI's in this serial range (like Selmer Mark VI Baritone 78795 recently listed in the baritones section of the site). In my book, they sell for a little less than the engraved ones, even though you can actually get it engraved in the USA and it will look nearly identical to an originally-engraved Mark VI at that point! I've done that a couple of times before, and it looks great.
Condition wise, there are only a few minor past repairs to mention: a dent removed from the back of the bow, a little nail polish around the strap hook to prevent the 'sax chain' (that mid-century destroyer of saxophone lacquer) from doing its worst, and a minor crease removed from the bell flare. Not bad for 67 years of use. This horn wasn't actually played that much. I would guess maybe 5-10 years of regular playing and then it was put away for the next 50+. It has a high #, which is increasingly in demand among modern players who grew up with it and are used to it. It was an upgrade in the 50's and you only see it infrequently. Like every Euro-assembled VI, this tenor has no serial on the neck, which is certainly original and matches the horn perfectly in color and wear. The neck is in excellent condition without any signs of damage or pull down. This tenor is actually a couple of grades nicer than my personal VI, and with an overhaul, it will be a world-class player for anyone who wants a top quality VI for what I can't help calling a bargain price. It comes in the original orange leather Selmer case as well.
