The Selmer Balanced Action is my personal favorite model of Selmer alto. It’s warm, sweet, free blowing, and lyrical. Basically, it’s the kind of alto that people actually want to listen to somebody play. This particular one comes with some fascinating history. It was built in occupied France towards the end of WWII. Since France did not fight, Selmer kept making saxophones during the war, and one of the nicest remaining examples of those is this gorgeous original silver plated Selmer Balanced Action alto. It has black bakelite key touches because mother of pearl was scarce at this time. I love how the black and silver look together.

The best Balanced Actions IMO are between 27k and the end of the BA run. This one is right in there and tunes great, feels nice and dry and snappy under the fingers, and plays effortlessly down to low Bb. It has a fresh overhaul just finished up, and won’t need any more than occasional checkups for the foreseeable future. Wonderful alto that has Selmer quality and design but doesn’t sound like everything else out there.
