This beautiful original lacquer Couf Superba 1 alto came from Rocky Giglio’s collection of some of the best H Couf saxophones. He inherited some of them from Herb Couf himself! This one is one of the nicest, and came to me with original pads. It just got a full fresh overhaul, which was the whole job of restoring it back to like new mechanical condition. Rocky mixed and matched Superba 1 necks like a wild man, so this one comes with an OEM replacement neck, and if you want to pick it up in person, you can also try it with some of the other necks, including a 72k, a 78k, another replacement neck, a black nickel Superba 1 neck, and even an original gold plated Superba 1 neck. But it probably plays best on the neck that Rocky matched it up with. It’s effortless to play down to the lush low register, and it stays fat and full sounding up into the palm keys and beyond. The Superba 1 is a fantastic alto for anyone who prioritizes the qualigt German engineering and manufacture, good intonation, extra comfortable keywork, and a gorgeous dark and balanced alto tone.
