The Buffet Super Dynaction is a vintage saxophone that deserves more love than it gets. These things play like a vintage Selmer but with a better upper register and for like 25-35% of the price of an equivalent Selmer. That makes them a great deal. The keywork is also nearly modern feeling, so you don't even have to relearn a different key layout than your modern horn has (though it does feel at least a bit different in places). The tone is huge, medium between bright and dark, with a recognizable French 'core' and a lot of lyrical complexity to it. A friend of mine described the Super Dynaction altos as 'operatic' and I think that's exactly right. The tone is wide open and has plenty of power in reserve, even in the palm keys where the Mark VI gets a bit thin. This horn has original factory pads and will need an overhaul to play its best, but it has great bones - it's clean, original lacquer, nice and easy to overhaul. It will not be a hard job for anyone who has experience working on saxophones. Also, the Super Dynaction works well with a range of mouthpieces, so you're not boxed in to only small chamber like on some Selmers or only large chamber like on some Conns and Bueschers.
