Yanagisawa TWO2 Tenor Saxophone brand new (formerly T902) is a pretty much my favorite version of the Yanagisawa tenor saxophone. I feel like the TWO2 is more lively under the fingers than its more expensive 'Elite' TWO20 sibling. They are identical in neck, bell, body tube, but differ principally in the stiffer keywork of the 20 version.
This horn got a new horn checkup after arriving at the GetASax shop. Having a world class repairman take a look at a new saxophone fresh from the factory can often take it from good to great. There are typically 2 or 3 small tweaks that need done, and presto – you get the full experience of what the horn can do. Besides the excellent price, that’s a real selling point versus other online options. I wish my first new saxophone (Yamaha 875) had been checked out. I suffered with too stiff spring tensions for years in college, without even realizing that I could easily have had that fixed. I know better now!
For you parents out there, I will say, the Yanagisawa is also the best built modern saxophone, so it has the lowest maintenance costs to keep it in good adjustment. I would only budget like $50 a year for a minor checkup, and the Pisoni Italian leather pads on this will last for many years - I'd think 10-20 depending on how much you play it and whether you swab it out after playing. Price wise, these are only going up in price, and GetASax has them priced the lowest of anywhere in the country I am pretty sure. That means that you won't lose anything to depreciation and you can very likely get all or most of your purchase price back out if you need to sell this in excellent used condition in the future. It's a horn that won't hold back a developing musician, and it's just delightful to play and to own. Gets my full endorsement!
