The Yanagisawa T880 is one of my favorite modern tenors out of everything out there. It has some of the best build quality of any tenor ever made, and the 880 tone has more warmth and complexity and sounds a little more like a vintage horn than most of what’s out there. For all you non-Yanagisawa-model-name-nerds out there, the T880 is equivalent to the T990 (1990s), T991 (2000’s) and TWO10 (modern model name). This T880 is in all original condition with original lacquer almost 100% intact, original pads, original neck undamaged, original case in great shape as well. If you want a super clean T880, this one is very hard to beat. It had a little dent removed from the back of the bow which isn’t visible. It looks fantastic and is about as near to new-looking as you could ask for in a Yanagisawa tenor.
If you’re looking for an affordable modern tenor with a great tone, great intonation and ergonomics, and a great overall value, it’s hard to beat the Yanagisawa T880. This one has mostly original pads, but it was just tuned up and plays well on them. I’d plan to spend some money replacing pads down the road as you start to put some wear on them, but since it’s been played so little since new, it makes sense to leave them now and let them get at least a couple years of use before replacing.
