This Selmer SBA from 1950 with a serial very close to Coltrane’s famous SBA. This tenor has been refinished and it also needs an overhaul, but with relacquered SBA’s listed at 10-12k on ebay over the last several years, I think pricing this one at half that is quite fair and should be a great deal for someone. You’d want to invest in a good overhaul and then match this with the neck of your choice. There are lots of SBA style necks on the market, the cheapest of which is probably Ishimori and the most authentic of which would be buying an actual SBA neck on ebay or through a dealer. The Tino Schucht African Spirit neck is also along these lines, as are several others. I think Eastern Music may make one that is pretty good and extremely cheap, though I don’t have personal experience with those like I do with the rest of the above. A Mark VI neck would also take this in a more straight ahead direction, versus the slightly more spread SBA tone. This comes in a new BAM Classic tenor case so to keep it safe and as an extra bonus (I got it in an old Selmer Vanguard which is clunky and heavy and not nearly as protective.)
