Near mint example of a Selmer Reference 54 alto. It has been played a little but not much, and is an enormously better deal than buying a new one. These are the best sounding modern Selmers in my opinion, and actually do play similarly to a vintage Selmer, but with more modern ergonomics. Includes the original case as well.
This horn is better than new because the factory pads have had a fresh setup including replacing several of them for increased playability and better feel and reliability down the road. This horn looks new but saves you thousands of dollars versus buying a new one. And any new one you buy will also need this same setup and will be worth around $4500 as soon as you drive it off the lot. Is it really worth losing $2000-3000+ just to be the one to open the box the first time, versus having something nearly new with a proper setup?
These horns are fun to play, and the lacquer and engraving are really eye-catching. They tune better than a VI, and the keywork is more comfortable too. It's a solid modern saxophone, and definitely a good purchase if you can find one used like this. Highly recommended.
