1968 is a great year for the Selmer Mark VI. Prices are lower than the earlier horns but quality and tone are in good supply. The tenors like this from '68 tend to be medium between bright and dark, with a colorful gorgeous core to the tone. So fun to play! Some of that comes through in the video below, even though this one has a mix of pads. It just got a pretty thorough tune up and sounds great! In the video it's doing classic mainstream jazz or you can do anything on it with a different mouthpiece and playing approach. The Mark VI is the most versatile saxophone ever made. Intonation and ergonomics are excellent. Plus it's significantly less money than an (inferior though pretty) new Selmer Supreme, and actually not that much more than a standard new Yamaha pro horn or something. Besides sounding great, Mark VI's are also easy to repair and maintain. There's no other horn most woodwind repairers like working on more or have more experience working on.

This Mark VI has speckly lacquer in places from use and just standard wear over time. Besides that it's very very clean with nothing resoldered, no dents or dings, neck is perfect. Maybe a couple of small dings removed from the bow area, but remarkably little for almost 60 years. The original case is in pretty good shape as well, and all in all, this is a superb deal for someone for a great sounding original lacquer Mark VI.
