Here's a beautiful original lacquer Selmer Mark VI baritone saxophone with low A from 1959. It had a Selmer factory replacement top bow put on probably in the early 60's by the lacquer color and style, but besides that and a resoldered low Eb keyguard, it is in amazingly original shape, with original Tone-x resonators on mostly original pads. The 1959 Selmers remain pretty much the most desirable vintage of all Mark VI's, which is not surprising given all the good things you can say about them. The tone is dark, powerful, focused, and accounts for the long-lasting reputation of the Selmer Mark VI as the all-around best saxophone ever made. The build quality is excellent, the engraving is gorgeous, keywork is comfortable, intonation is good - basically, it does everything well. I love these 1959 Selmers, and my personal tenor is not far from this serial. If you want to get a low A baritone that will do it all, and that is nevertheless not that much different in price from a regular old Yamaha 62, that's what this is. The pads are mostly original, so plan on an overhaul soon, but it has been well cared for over its lifetime and comes to you in really remarkably good condition, ready for its second owner! If you want the history of this horn, I can send you some photos and details. It played with some of the jazz greats!
