This Conn bass saxophone Serial 147186 is now SOLD. In the mid to upper register, it has a big, rich, warm tone like a Conn 12M baritone, but the low end is obviously HUGE, while remaining warm. This horn is a lots of fun to play. Condition-wise, I don't *think* that this has been relacquered, and it is in fairly good condition for an 80-year-old bass. You can see that this horn has the standard bass saxophone dents on the bell and body tube, and neck. The bell to body brace has also been resoldered. This horn is a LOT of fun to play. Even though the pads are a mostly older, it seals just fine, and it's easy to play down to low Bb. Conn started the New Wonder II at 147k serial, and this horn shows some features of what would become the New Wonder II, like changed octave pip placement and boxier octave key. It also has a much improved neck design compared to the *early* New Wonder 1, and tunes much more easily. But it does not yet have the nailfile G# key so it's not completely New Wonder II yet either.

Back in the day, the Conn bass saxophone was **the** saxophone to play. Most bands had one, and there were celebrity bass sax players. Aside from Colin Stetson (who also plays a Conn bass saxophone) there is still a lot of room for more people to bring back the bass saxophone to its deserved popularity. It's also pretty easy to get the calls for gigs if you are the only person around who plays the low saxophones well. There's only one of these available. Get it now! I would prefer not to ship this. It is too large and a bit too fragile to ship very far, so contact me about your shipping/pickup options.
