Here’s a rare beast – an original satin silver plated Conn 10M from 1942, just before Conn switched to wartime production of altimeters and prismatic compasses instead of musical instruments. This one was evidently made for a US military band, and is one of a batch of silver instruments made for the military for use during WWII. I’ve seen several of them over the years, and they are a really special piece of history, along with also being beautiful in silver plate. Silver Conns after 1935 are actually pretty rare, and you see hardly any made in 1939-1941 at least that I have seen so far. This one is in excellent condition with original silver plate. It came in with a recently done overhaul, and after a thorough COA and setup it now plays REALLY well – like effortlessly saturated pianissimo low Bb, roaring upper register. It’s fat, warm, free blowing, and tunes great. I play a 10M myself as my personal tenor, and I really don’t know what more you could want. And it’s cheaper than a new Yamaha even including the overhaul. Kind of nuts really.
