I'm pleasantly surprised with the tone of this tenor! For a very reasonable price you get a sound that isn't like everything else on the market - this is darker and more spread by far than most other modern horns. Reminds me of a Keilwerth, which, I guess, isn't that surprising as Peter Ponzol helped design both instruments.
This tenor is in nearly new condition, and also feels new under the fingers. If you're looking for a darker tone in a modern tenor and you need it to be under $3k, you don't have many options, and I doubt there are any better than this unless you're able to overhaul a used Keilwerth. Of course, the grandfather of all of these horns is the Conn 10M (which I play personally) so I am a bit biased in the direction of this kind of tone. Only one available!
