It has the new and improved '62' stamped neck, which I like because it reminds me of the wonderful neck that came on Yamaha's old 62 purple logo tenors. The YTS-62 is the saxophone that saxophone teachers and band directors most often recommend for people wanting their first good tenor saxophone. It is priced lower than the Yamaha 82 and 875 lines of 'Custom' tenors, but you don't actually sacrifice any quality for the lower price. Rather, Yamaha just never stops making a model once it develops tooling to make it, so the modern 62 is basically a continuation of Yamaha's first real pro tenor that came out right around 1980. They have just added other lines of pro tenors on top of that with some new designs. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eReasons to get a 62 are pretty straightforward. It's high quality; made in Japan; holds its value well; has great intonation; is extremely well built; has comfortable, ergonomic keywork; and above all, it sounds great and is just fun to play. The silver plated ones are rarer and more desirable than the standard lacquered brass ones. I love the way the silver looks. The silver ones seem to be a little livelier and vibrate a bit more under the fingers, though I could be imagining that. In any case, they hold their value REALLY well, so if you need to sell this down the road, you will likely get all or almost all of your money back out of the horn assuming it's still in excellent condition. The cost of ownership is lower than for nearly anything else you might buy, use, and then sell. If you're a band parent, that could be a huge win for you. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis horn had no past damage and just got a thorough tune up with GetASax before being listed for sale. It plays effortlessly, with low Bb popping out in subtone with full saturation of tone.
