Description
This is one beautiful SML alto! It was one owner, extremely well cared-for, and it came in great mechanical and cosmetic condition. The pads are old — probably original. There are no past repairs at all. If you’re not up on SML’s, this is one of the best ones to get. It’s the same as the slightly more expensive Gold Medal 1, but this one has straight tone holes, so it’s a bit easier to get worked on and to maintain. (Rolled tone holes are nice, but trickier for your repairman to handle.)
These altos play beautifully with the same kind of Selmer+Conn tone as the tenors – dark, powerful like a Conn, but centered and lyrical like a Selmer. I have one similar to this myself, and it’s fantastic. It would be hard to get a higher quality alto saxophone for the price!
