This Supreme is only about a year old and was lightly used. It is getting the job done that I think all Supremes need – basically a repad, but you can reuse the original Pisoni Italian leather pads if you take them all out, add adhesive, reseat them, and redo many of the adjustment materials and fix several things. It costs me about $700 to have done, and it takes the Supreme from annoying to amazing to play. The Supreme tenor feels like a really in-tune Selmer Mark VI to me – tonally, it is more like a later VI. Branford Marsalis and lots of other Selmer artists have moved to these. I still prefer an actual Mark VI if it has a good overhaul and is a nice, clean example, but if you want a new rather than vintage horn, and you want great intonation and an interesting tone, the Supreme beats the Series II, Series III, or Reference horns. This one saves you some money AND has the nice mini-overhaul so it will play better than any other Supreme you’re likely to come across that isn’t sold by GetASax.
