Description
Here is a horn you REALLY don’t see every day. It’s a totally original lacquer Selmer Super Sax. The Super’s play with a big, medium dark tone that is more lush and velvety than any later Selmer. They are also better in tune with modern mouthpieces than any of the earlier Selmers. So this is a kind of sweet spot playing wise.
This horn is in uncommonly fine condition. I have never seen an original lacquer Super that was this nice before. It is remarkably well-preserved, with no dents, no dings, no resolders. The bell flare, body tube, bow, and original neck all look perfect. This horn had a recent full repad before I got it, and it plays pretty well with the current pad job. Since I didn’t have the overhaul done, I am pricing it on the low side so that you can have additional pad work or setup done if you want to. Think of it as an original pads price for a horn that has already been repadded but still needs a little tuning up. Collector’s note: This horn has the rare, geared octave mechanism that you usually see on a subset Radio Improved saxophones, and in terms of serial number, it is almost a Radio Improved era horn. It also has a beautiful original case as well.
If you have been looking for a great vintage Selmer alto for a while, and you want a really clean, nice, original one, well, this is the nicest lacquered one that I have seen. Only one available! Get it now before it’s gone!
