This is a nice, original silver plated, later SBA Tenor SN# 53xxx. It is probably the best playing tenor on the site right now, even given the other extremely good horns that there are. It is A-MAZ-ING, and will not disappoint even the most spoiled/picky saxophone collector/pro player. Seriously – I avoid saying that every horn on the site is a “Monster” or a “Killer” specifically so that when the really unbelievable horn comes along, I can use those words and they actually mean something. You are getting the classic SBA sound – dark, dense, powerful, somewhat spread with a punchy edge to it; great response, super easy low notes, unbeatable feel under the fingers. The works.
The plating is in good shape, except for a few spots on the touch points (thumb hook, palm keys etc). This horn has new American engraving it deserves done by Sherry Huntley. It just got a fresh overhaul by Matt Stohrer including full mechanical rebuild and high-end ($100) domed brass resos. This horn is now better than new mechanically, and should be set for the next few decades as far as that is concerned.
Structurally, this horn is in very good condition with a nice, undamaged original neck and very little past damage to note – some small dents removed from the back of the bow, like most horns.
Just to sum up – if you want the best SBA around, get this one. If you want to get the horn with a new Hiscox case, or with some other case combination, I’d be happy to work with you.
