The Selmer Super Balanced Action is one of those horns everyone wants to own. This one is priced low because it got a new coat of lacquer at some point along the way. Original lacquer examples sell for double this price, even without the fresh overhaul that this horn has. The re-lacquer in this case makes little to no difference to the tone, because this horn has just received a fresh, full overhaul done correctly, so that there is no mechanical play in the keywork, no damage from buffing, and everything plays and feels like a brand new (or even better than new) saxophone. This horn got the deluxe treatment with hand-machined TenorMadness domed brass resonators, and a superior overhaul. It is totally read to go for its next generation of playing.
This horn has that beautiful warm, vintage Selmer sort of tone that just doesn’t quite leave the ears of any fan of mainstream jazz. Round, delicate, lyrical, thinner in the upper register – this is classic SBA. This horn is particularly responsive and plays low Bb with an easily saturated pianissimo.
This also includes a new BAM Softpack tenor case with the purchase, and you can upgrade to a Cabine tenor in any color for a little extra if you want. This is the perfect gigging tenor. With a fresh, high-end overhaul this thing smokes.
