This is a super-clean Series III soprano that has hardly been played at all since it was new. It has 100% of the original lacquer intact with no play wear. This horn has just been checked out to make sure that the pads are in good adjustment and it is ready to go right out of the case. There was a small ding removed below the serial number stamp, and there’s a small amount of lacquer loss near the neck receiver. Of course, this kind of thing is very minor. Both necks look good – these are the ones with the rifled tenon by the way.
Sonically, the tone is classic modern Selmer – a delicate, semi-complex French core that is round and medium-bright. The intonation and ergonomics are very good. This horn has a high G key as well. All told, this is a nice, near mint example of a Series III that is in basically the same playing condition as a new one would be, and that costs a whole lot less. This horn ships in the original case, which is also in excellent condition.
