As I’ve said before, the Selmer Radio Improved is one of my favorite saxophones of all time. I have two tenors in my personal collection that have special engraving, and then this one, which is an outstanding player. I’m putting this one up for sale because it really deserves to be played by someone serious. These horns have such a special tone that is fatter and more Conn-like than a later Selmer (SBA/Mark VI) and that has a much more full sounding upper register than an SBA or VI. But unlike a Conn, this still sounds definitely like a Selmer with a lyrical, ‘French’ core tone and Selmer keywork and build quality. With only 490 RI Tenors made, in total, this is without a doubt one of the nicest ones in existence. I have owned two silver RI tenors over the years, and this one is the one I kept the longest. It has a great overhaul and just got a fresh checkup immediately pre-sale. This is setup for a player who moves a lot of air and is looking for a big, room-filling sound. The spring tensions are a little stiffer than average, so keys don’t blow open, and it has a second strap hook for better balance if you want that. It is currently in a ProTec, but. have some other case options available. The resonators are slightly domed metal, reusable, and the Italian leather pads are by Pisoni, who makes the best pads in the world.
