Here is a gorgeous example of a 5-digit, original lacquer Selmer Mark VI tenor. It is tenors like this one that won Selmer its reputation of producing the finest saxophones in the world. This horn has about 95+% of its original lacquer, with one spot of honest wear on the back of the body tube. Besides that, there is one small dent on the neck (pictured), a shallow one above the serial number, and one that was removed from the top of the body tube a long time ago. These all appear minor, and should not affect playability significantly, since they hardly impinge into the inside of the horn at all. Besides that, there’s a serial number engraved on the bow guard. That’s it – no resolders, neck is perfect and has never been pulled down. It has original pads with original domed metal resonators, and they are all sealing well and still in amazingly good condition.
This tenor really comes alive in your hands, the way that only the best tenors do. The sound is rich, dark, and complex, with a bit of a powerful edge to it. It’s pretty focused and can project nicely. It’s the kind of horn that makes you want to play and play, knowing that this is how the tenor saxophone was meant to be! Plus, the horn is just gorgeous and will continue to go up in value over the years while you enjoy owning and playing it!
