This is a very clean relacquered Mark VI tenor that was sent by the original owner to the Selmer factory 3o years ago. It is one of the cleanest relacquered horns that I have seen, and based on the sharpness of the engraving and the absence of any evidence of buffing, most people would think that it was actually original. The body is very clean, with one very small ding having been removed from the back of the body tube. I don’t see any evidence of past dent work, and the bell flare, bow and neck are all very clean. The neck is not pulled down, and does not look like it has ever been pulled down. It does have a pickup cleanly installed, and I can have that removed if you want, but it might also be useful to some, so I left it in for now. The tone holes on this horn have not been buffed, and look just as good as original tone holes. Just to re-emphasize, I have seen lots of relacquered horns and there are really good ones, and really bad ones. This one is one of the really good ones, and it should be a very good horn.
Playing wise, I don’t know how this horn plays in detail yet, but the tone is classic Mark VI and is medium bright. It needs some pads at least to play its best, and I am tempted to just get it overhauled. However, there are lots of people out there looking for a really good deal on a good VI tenor like this, so I am a bit hesitant to add too much value and price it out of this low range. Contact me ASAP if you want the horn either as is, or with only some pads replaced. It is being sold at this price as-is, with the understanding that the pads are older and that it will need a repad in the fairly near future to play its best.
