Description
This is a crazy good deal on a beautiful, original lacquer Selmer Mark VI tenor from 1961. It has mostly original pads still intact, and is in very good original condition. It is not often that you see a late 5-digit tenor in this sort of shape. There’s very little lacquer wear to the original lacquer. It has only been played a little bit since new. it has had some small dings removed in the bow area, and that’s about it.
These horns play with a beautiful tone that is the reason that people all over the world want an early Mark VI tenor. The tone is more complex, nuanced and beautiful than a modern horn, with a medium-focused “French”-sounding lyrical core. It’s medium between bright and dark – sort of a dark core but it gets brighter and punchier when pushed. This is the sort of horn that you think of with someone like Michael Brecker, who played a number of VI’s from this serial range and a little earlier. It really does it all, and the price is crazily low for what you get. It’s priced low to move quickly for a consignment seller. Someone should grab this right now.
