This is a clean, relacquered Mark VI alto saxophone with a fresh overhaul that plays very well. When you are looking at relacquered horns, you have to look for evidence of over buffing, or mechanical flaws that were dealt with when the horn was relacquered. This horn has none of that stuff, and is just a nice 5-digit alto with a fresh coat of lacquer put on at some point. There is no evidence of past dent work, and the body tube is clean and straight. The bell has not been dented, and the neck is perfect and has not been pulled down. The neck has the matching serial number as well. Engraving still looks good, and the lacquer looks beautiful as well and is almost all intact.
This horn has a fresh overhaul done only a year ago by a very capable tech, and it shows. The work is very good and feels great under the fingers. The pads are nice and poppy and the setup is just great. This is a horn that is totally ready to go for a long time and needs nothing.
Tone wise, it again shows itself to be a very good VI alto. It retains the medium-dark, focused core of an early VI alto, but it has a more open, free-blowing quality that only the best early VI altos have. This horn is going to make somebody very happy. For the price, it’s hard to beat for a 5-digit VI in top playing condition.
