Description
This is a gorgeous Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone that is an exceptionally fine player. When I use that phrase on the site, I really mean it. It has nearly all of its original silver plate intact, and it plays great on a Ken Beason overhaul done in the last couple of years. It has no significant damage to the neck, bell, or body tube. The neck is original, beautiful and has not been pulled down or damaged save for some little nicks on the sides from being inside the case with mouthpieces etc. There’s a little ding that was removed from the bell flare – hard to see, but if you look closely at the light reflecting inside the bell you can sort of see it. One foot of the low C key guard was carefully resoldered, and it is hard to tell even looking closely.
The price INCLUDES a new BAM Cabine alto case in silver to match the horn and keep it safe! You can get a red or black Cabine or another BAM case instead if you prefer.
If you are looking for the best playing Mark VI for the money, this horn would be very hard to beat for a lot of people I think. First of all, this is among the most in tune Mark VI’s that I have played, with the medium bow length giving the bell keys correct intonation, and things staying steady up into the upper register quite well.
The tone is medium bright with tons of projection. This horn wants to be played LOUD. Even with my GS Special alto piece, modeled on a warm Meyer Bros Alto mouthpiece, I am getting a lot of projection and power. With Ken Beason’s excellent pad work and snappy setup, this horn is just dialed in and burning.
I do take returns, and you are only out shipping (which is not that expensive), so if you are a player looking for a serious Mark VI alto, I do not at all mind sending you this to play. In the form-fitted BAM case, shipping damage is not an issue.
