Description
By the 1970’s Selmer had finally worked out the Selmer Mark VI alto to have the most even scale and the best tuning of any of the VI altos. The bow length, bow tuning insert and neck design were all optimized over the years. So I always tell people the best buy in a Selmer Mark VI alto is to buy a later one like this, because they sell lower, even though they play as well or better compared to other vintages of VI. The tone of the later ones is brighter, but still works great for any playing setting depending upon mouthpiece choice. This particular alto is original lacquer, American-engraved. It’s in good physical condition with no dents or dings. The low C and Eb key guards have been resoldered, and the body/bow joint was resoldered also (probably there was a dent in the Eb area that was removed). It looks good now, aside from the missing lacquer. The pads are medium-old, and it plays on them, though it’s not freshly done. Basically what you’re looking at is a good condition original lacquer later VI that has great potential. I’m pricing it very competitively to sell quickly and be a great value for someone. Price is lower than a new Yamaha, and this Selmer Mark VI will continue to go up in value while you own it, which is a big deal. Only one available!
