This is a nice original lacquer The Martin Tenor SN# 195xxx. These are probably the best horn for the money of any vintage saxophone. The original lacquer is somewhat speckled, and there are a few places where the brass has turned red. One post has been resoldered, and the thumb hook is slightly pushed in as well. This horn has just had some playing-condition work done, and it plays pretty well now. Many pads are still older, but you can at least play down to low Bb and have some fun with it. It has not been played very much, judging by the feel and the condition of the pearls. Martin lacquer is just kind of fragile and speckles very easily.
These horns are really fun to play with a big, powerful tone with warmth, and a signature “edge” if you push them. They work well for jazz, rock and R&B, depending on your choice of mouthpiece, and the horns are built like tanks so they will last forever and are really hard to dent or damage compared to other saxophones.
