The Martin Baritone is a contender for best overall vintage baritone alongside the Conn 12M. It has more power and focus than a 12M, but it’s also a bit heavier. It’s also half the price! This horn just got a full high end overhaul and plays absolutely effortlessly throughout the full range. Low Bb pops out easily even at pianissimo. Just another note. Keywork feels great under the fingers – tight, snappy, and ‘dry’ like it should. Everything about the overhaul was done as well as possible. It’s very rare to be able to buy an original lacquer vintage bari sax that is in top playing condition already. Most folks cut corners or just sell horns as-is. Good luck with that! But properly overhauled like this, the Martin Comm III is just a joy to play. It’s also not mouthpiece picky and works with all sorts of pieces. You can’t go wrong with this one. There’s no chromatic F# key, by the way. Just a unique quirk of the instrument.
