Description

The Martin Music Man model is a rare, deluxe edition of the professional ‘The Martin Tenor’ also called the Committee III. A horn of many names, it is also my favorite model of Martin tenor. Along with the Magna, the Music Man is the most desirable and collectible Martin model. It was issued to commemorate the popular musical “The Music Man,” about a traveling band instrument salesman. (If you’re like me, you have “Trouble, with a capital T” running in your mind right now…)

So condition wise, this horn was original lacquer before it was overhauled, and it has not been relacquered. The original lacquer on this horn was starting to get very fragile, like a lot of Martin saxophone lacquer does. This is the third or fourth time I have sold stripped original lacquer Martins for this same reason. They always look great like this. The engraving will fill in darker over time, and give you a matte brass/dark engraving look that is super nice.

There are no past repairs- no dents, no dings, no resolders. The neck looks great, and has the matching serial number to the body. The original case is in nearly-new shape, and the horn also includes the original Martin warranty card! It’s the first Music Man I’ve seen with a warranty card included. On top of that, you also get this horn with the fresh overhaul, which was done right before I got it. It doesn’t need anything, and plays just great, with a very easy low Bb, even at low volumes, and a really even scale throughout. A great thing about Martins is that they have a lush, full low register that just flies out of the horn like a floodlight. The palm keys and extreme upper register also stay full and fat, and don’t go thin and nasal like many modern horns. This horn sounds great both on ballads and on screaming rock and blues, and pretty much everything in between (except maybe classical saxophone!). I like to play it with an aggressive mouthpiece with a higher baffle and get a cutting tone that remains full with some darkness and body to it.

There’s only one available!

We pay the best prices for great saxophones.
