Description
This is a powerful Martin Committee 2 Tenor by Martin. The Committee 2 was going to be Martin’s pro tenor, until they got into legal troubles with a company that owned one of the patents relating to the design. So this pro horn was only made for just over three years, between 132xxx-144xxx serials, roughly. That means there are only a few of these around compared to almost any other horn of this caliber. The main reason to get this horn is the way it plays – full, strong, loud, with lots of body. It’s also very nicely in tune, and the keywork is quite comfortable. And the styling is fantastic too, with beautiful engraving and key guards and details.
This is original lacquer, and it is in good condition with only regular play wear from use. The only resolder is on one leg of the low C guard, and that’s it for repairs. The lines in the lacquer on the back of the body tube near the octave key are from polishing, not from dent work. I don’t see any evidence of dent work. The pads are all sealing well, and this horn is tons of fun to play, with a big, lively feel that may startle some players who are used to relatively-tame modern saxophones!
I think whoever buys this will be really surprised at what a great horn it is. People don’t talk about Martins as much as Selmers and Conns, but they are seriously great pro instruments that just happen to be extremely affordable. I do take returns happily for any reason, so buy with confidence, and if you return it, I won’t be sad. You’re only out shipping.
Only one available! It would be hard to find a tenor nearly this good for around this price.
