Description
I’m sure there’s no better playing King Super 20 tenor on the market at the moment. This beautiful original lacquer, full pearls King Super 20 tenor from 1948 just got a complete overhaul, done to my picky standards, and it is now playing its very best. This horn was nice and clean with original pads still there when I got it. Then we gave it the spa treatment and got it all cleaned, oiled, setup and repadded with everything feeling dry and snappy just like it should. This is one superb tenor to play. The tone is wide and fat like a Conn, but more straight ahead, brighter, and more powerful. The King Super 20’s are famous for sounding great both soft and loud. Where some tenors get shrill and nasal with a bright mouthpiece or at high volumes, Super 20’s feel like they were born for that. Pop a Berg Larsen metal or a Jody Jazz or Theo Wanne, or Dukoff or Guardala on there, and you can push it as loud as you want without it thinning out or sounding shrill. It just shakes the walls. Designed to project over a section or a band with amplification, these horns fill a room effortlessly.
This has the nice domed brass screw in resonators and Italian Leather Pisoni pads that a good Super 20 should have if you want it to feel its best and respond effortlessly. The low register just pops out without any hassle, and the whole horn feels brand new under the fingers. I play Super 20 tenors myself, and I really think this is one of the best that I have had for sale in over a year. The 319k is also quite good, but still has original pads. This one has the overhaul all finished, and is ready to make music with minimal upkeep for the foreseeable future.
