Beautiful original lacquer King Super 20 Alto. Cannonball Adderley’s full pearls 323xxx alto was right near this one in serial number. This one has the most desirable combination of features with the more comfortable pinky keys together with the extra pearls on the side keys, G#, and octave key, extra engraving on key cups, and solid silver, double-socket neck. It had some small dents removed from the back of the bow, but it looks good now. The rest of the horn is nice and clean. There are no resolders except for the low Eb keyguard (which is common and not serious) The neck, body tube and bell are all in clean, undamaged, original condition. The neck on this horn is beautiful, double-socket looks good, and it has the matching serial number to the body.
This horn is currently getting a fresh overhaul and restoration (leaving the lacquer original of course). It will come to you playing its BEST, and with the keywork tight and ready for many many years of reliable use. I am really picky about these sorts of things, and I will make sure that it is done right. I pay to get the best work done on my horns, just as if I were keeping them all as daily players.
I play a Super 20 alto just like this myself, and tonally, I just don’t think you can really beat a 40’s-50’s Super 20 for the total combination of tone, beauty, ergonomics, and sheer joy of playing. If you’re looking for a world-class jazz alto, and you still want relatively modern keywork, this would be the horn to get.
