These German-made instruments show great attention to detail and superior build quality. Tonally, Keilwerth represents a different sound concept from all other current makers. The sound is big and dark on the spectrum, not the delicate, focused Selmer-type core, but more of a fat, warm sound that is in the world of Grover Washington Jr and Don Braden, among many others. This horn is solid nickel silver, so it is not made of brass like most saxophones. This seems to contribute ideally to the spread, warm tone that the Keilwerth already goes for. The black nickel “shadow” finish, combined with engraving that cuts through. The original case is basically like new, and the horn shows no play wear at all, and looks totally new.
