This is as beautiful a transitional 12M as I have ever seen. It is beyond rare to see an original lacquer vintage bari this nice, let alone the holy grail of baritone saxophones. It has an older repad that has had virtually no playing time on it, and it just got a checkup and now plays quite easily down to low Bb. This is the earliest original lacquer Conn baritone that I have seen, and it is also one of the earliest original-lacquered Conns of any kind. Conn started lacquering horns at the factory right around 254xxx or so, as far as I can tell from looking around. And they don’t get a lot nicer than this from that era. The lacquer is gorgeous, and the horn looks just beautiful. The keywork is nice and tight, and this horn has clearly not been played much. I got it from a collector who kept it in his closet for about thirty years. You can see some signs of moderate past dent work in the photos: the horn has been apart when it was last repadded, leaving some lacquer loss at the joints. There is some minor dent work on the bell and back of the bow. Nothing major though. The two palm key guards on the upper bow have also been resoldered. This is sold with the current pads – older but sealing well and barely used. I have a nice ProTec case for this which works fine. I would also consider giving you a great deal on a BAM Hightech with the horn if you need one for gigging.
