If you are looking for the ultimate vintage bari, this is it. There is nothing better for tone, warmth, and power than a transitional 12M. This is the bari made famous by Gerry Mulligan (though he also used the previous model Conn baritone as well at times). Mulligan played his transitional with a Gale Hollywood 5 Baritone mouthpiece, but it works very well with any vintage large chamber piece, like an Otto Link (rubber or metal) a Conn, Babbit and many others.
This horn is very clean with minimal dings and no dents. It has just had an overhaul done by Matt Stohrer, a bari player himself, and one of the best repair techs in the business. It has a new neck receiver because the other one was leaking, and the brace on the upper bow has been resoldered (as part of the overhaul process).
The tone is huge and rich, and the horn just sings in your hands. This is one that I am not too enthusiastic about selling, because it is so fun to play. I would prefer to keep it unless someone REALLY wants it. I have a few other 12M’s, so maybe you could do me a favor and buy one of those. This is also a very light bari – it feels much more like a tenor in your hands, so it’s great for people for whom instrument weight is an issue. It ships in a new $300 Protec contoured case.
