As you can see, this is an extremely clean example of a gold-plated Conn New Wonder II. This horn is also in very good playing condition and has mostly new pads. It has an unusually BIG sound, even for a Conn “Chu Berry.”
Cosmetically, this horn is also in excellent shape. The gold plate is almost all present. I see no resolders, no dents, no dings, and no past repairs. This horn has a couple of improvements that players commonly make on old Conn tenors. It had the original thumb hook replaced with a modern one for ergonomic reasons and it had an additional strap hook added for balance.
Playing wise, this horn is a beast – shining gold, huge sound. If you’re coming from a comparatively tame modern Selmer or Yamaha, this kind of vintage Conn can be almost too much sound at first, until you learn to tame the horn! This is lots of fun, and for once, the guitarists and brass players will be asking you to please not play so loudly all the time… This is pure 1920’s-30’s jazz power: big, smoky, warm – lots of complexity to make it interesting to listen to.
It comes in a new SKB case. There’s only one available. This is an easy, turn key purchase on a rare, original gold plate Conn tenor! Only one available. Get it now!
