This is a nice original lacquer Conn 6M VIII Alto Saxophone SN 289xxx. The coveted VIII Stamp appears on both body and neck and refers to bench number 8 in the Conn factory whose craftsman’s work was good enough to be worthy of special distinction. This horn has only normal play wear on the lacquer, and it is clear that it was owned by a meticulous person, who always picked it up the same way (see two finger marks on the side of the bell, and thumb mark on the other side) and who hardly touched the lacquer on the rest of the horn. The pearls are still in good condition on the keys, and the keywork is all in excellent condition with all keys straight and moving freely. The horn has had a dent removed from the back of the bow, and one leg of the low Eb keyguard was resoldered. These are both minor repairs. This horn needs a repad to be in playing condition, but it promises to be an easy repad with no surprises.
