This is a beautiful, original silver Conn 10M tenor. This horn has almost all of its original silver plate intact and has not been played much at all. It also has a recent repad that was done before it came in on consignment. Lots of guys all over the world seem to be moving from modern horns to vintage Conn tenors specifically, because they are looking for a bigger, more complex and rich tone. The only drawback is that you have to spend a couple of weeks getting used to the non-Selmer-style keywork. It is quite fast keywork once you’re used to it, and it’s well worth the adjustment period.

It also has a recent repad that was done before it came in on consignment. The pad work is OK but not great, so don’t expect this to feel as good as the horns on here that are described as playing their very best. But it does have new pads, and the repad was not terrible. The reason that it is not priced a thousand dollars higher (as most clean silver early 10M’s are) is that this horn had the bell brace pushed into the body at some point. This is hard to tell by looking at it now, because it has been straightened out and some posts have been resoldered in that area without leaving much trace. But the high E key and the G key are replacements from a later 10M, for this reason. The repairs were done well enough that two other dealers didn’t even notice them, so this may be no big deal to you, but it does mean the price gets reduced for your benefit.

It’s in the prime serial range for 10Ms, and it’s being sold on consignment for the owner to help him break even on the liquidation of his collection of saxophones. This is a solid horn for the money and will be absolutely stunning when polished some more and will play great with some additional pad work. It ships in an old Conn case, but talk to me about adding a nice modern case for a very low price to ensure safer shipping.
