This is one of the nicest vintage Buffet’s that I have seen. It’s totally original and plays well on original pads. Original mouthpiece, ligature, cap, lyre, cork grease, warranty cards and case are included. The horn is mint except for a few random spots in the lacquer on the back of the body. No dents, no dings, no past repairs, original neck is in great condition and not pulled down etc. Just a super-clean, original Buffet SDA.
Compared to a vintage Selmer (everyone always asks this) the tone is fairly similar, but it has a bigger sound, a slightly different but still French core (impossible to describe) and similar ergonomics (but the RH is a bit more spread than a VI, for instance, but only by a hair). It has a medium-dark core, on the tonal spectrum. Intonation is very good. If you like modern ergonomics, you’re interested in a more vintage tone, but you don’t want to have something that’s totally different from modern, (and you don’t want to spend a ton) then the Buffet SDA is what you want to get! I have read online a few times that Buffet tenors supposedly cannot be played at loud volumes, and I honestly have no idea what people are talking about. This horn has a far bigger sound than most Selmers (except maybe the BA) and it won’t back down if you want to play loudly.
