This is a vintage Buffet SA-18 (sometimes called Dynaction, but the bell engraving and brace are a little bit different on the two iterations) made in 1954. It is a great player. It has a fresh overhaul done by a very good tech in St. Louis (Blaise Buchanan). The original resonators were preserved for the new pads. This horn has a dark, rich tone that is slightly spread. It is smoky like an SBA, and has that similar french core, but it also has a special Buffet element that you don’t get in a Selmer, which is what makes people fall in love with these horns. (You can tell that I am a fan…)
There is no damage, and no past repairs. The original neck has never been pulled down. The original lacquer is intact, with some moderate play wear. This is a very hard-to-find sax and in this condition, even moreso. You won’t be sorry if you get this horn!
