This is a nice vintage Dynaction / SA-18 tenor with a fresh overhaul. It has dark nitrocellulose lacquer that is correct for the period. It has almost all of its original Buffet parabolic resonators as well, so it’s either original lacquer or relacquered by Buffet very soon after it was made. It is actually kind of hard to tell on this particular horn, but when in doubt, err on the side of caution.
This horn has a fresh repad and plays with a big, smoky tone and good intonation. I tried out a new tech on this one, and the overhaul quality is not that great. The horn is playing ok, and the pads are new, but it needs more work to play its best, so I have lowered the price a lot to give you the freedom to do that. This is one of my favorite vintage horns for all-around combination of tone, intonation, and ergonomics. And it is unusual to see one in this kind of clean condition. If you are doing the “vintage Selmer sound on a budget” thing, or looking for a Buffet for its own qualities (which I heartily recommend) then this could be a good choice.
