This is a rare silver Top Hat and Cane alto sax in near-pristine condition. It has just about all of its silver plate intact and there are no dents or resolders anywhere on the instrument. A small ding was removed from the neck, and it’s in good shape now. The body is straight, the bell flare looks great, as does the bottom bow. The pads are in good shape and the horn is in great regulation with a carefully-done setup. It ships in a beautiful blue-gray and white True Tone case that is in good condition. It would be hard to find a more beautiful example of a Top Hat. The engraving is particularly striking.
Playing wise, this horn has good pads and everything is tight and ready to go. The tone is medium bright. This horn has lots of flexibility and can do all kinds of things well. If you push it, it can be a great Rock ‘n Roll/Blues/R&B horn that wails and cuts through a band. But it’s also a very good horn for more legit and classical playing, because it has good intonation. I like this one a lot, and I think anyone who gets this horn is going to love it.
