This is a good deal on an original lacquer 10M. This horn has had some dent work on the back of the body tube behind the upper stack at some point. There are some dings on the back of the bottom bow, and the neck tenon has been resoldered. Besides that the horn looks structurally good. Bell flare looks good, neck is not pulled down. All keys move freely as well. Cosmetically, this horn has enough wear that you can take it out gigging without worrying too much, and enough lacquer that it still looks good.
Playing wise, this horn plays pretty well on older pads. I bought it from a player who was using it, so it’s not bad if you want to just play it as is. But I always tell people that it is best to repad horns that have older pads because then you get the horn’s full potential. So although it does play, plan on getting this horn repadded soon. The tone is classic 10M – big, rich, full, powerful if you push it, sweet if you hold back. It is also hard to beat 10M keywork for speed, and you Selmer guys out there will get used to the ergonomic differences if you give it a few weeks.
