This is a beautiful example of a Buffet SDA tenor. The serial number is 18xxx. It has almost all of its honey gold original lacquer intact, with just some minor wear on some rods and touch pieces. It has a fresh repad that was done well, and it plays great, with a big voice! Compared to a vintage Selmer (everyone always asks this) the tone is fairly similar, but it has a bigger sound, a slightly different but still French core (impossible to describe) and similar ergonomics (but the RH is a bit more spread than a VI, for instance, but only by a hair). It has a medium-dark core, on the tonal spectrum. Intonation is very good. If you like modern ergonomics, you’re interested in a more vintage tone, but you don’t want to have something that’s totally different from modern, (and you don’t want to spend a ton) then the Buffet SDA could be what you want to get!

It has almost all of its honey gold original lacquer intact, with just some minor wear on some rods and touch pieces. It has a fresh repad that was done well, and it plays great, with a big voice! There was a small ding that was removed from the neck and done well (see closeup photo below), as well as a couple of other very small dings on body tube that were removed. Besides that, the horn is very clean and all original. The lacquer color and bell engraving makes for a good looking horn!

I have read online a few times that Buffet tenors supposedly cannot be played at loud volumes, and I honestly have no idea what people are talking about. This horn has a far bigger sound than most Selmers (except maybe the BA) and it won’t back down if you want to play loudly. These horns are flexible with different mouthpiece options, so you can do anything from vintage large chamber for traditional jazz, to small tip classical, to R&B/commercial type of pieces and sound just great.
