Description
Here is a nice, clean Selmer Series II Tenor saxophone for a wonderful price. This horn was kept as a backup horn for many years and has hardly been played at all since new. The patina is something that just happens to lacquered horns sometimes. Air underneath the lacquer makes those. The lacquer is actually not missing. Original pads are intact and still sealing, and this just got a tune-up with everything checked out. Pads have been played so little, that it makes sense to play on them rather than replace at this point. No dents, no dings, no past repairs, neck is perfect, bell flare is perfect. Great horn.
The tone on a Series II is the best of the modern Selmers – centered, lyrical, warm and round, medium bright. This is the quintessential saxophone for the serious player or serious student, and it does most things well. The earlier Series II tenors like this were made better than the modern ones, and they hold up better over time, with more durable parts (like metal pivot screws).
This sale also includes the cool original Selmer case in the photos. All in all, it’s hard to beat the price for what you get here, which is a hardly-used $8000 tenor (to buy new today) for a small fraction of that price. Plan on some regular maintenance swapping pads down the road, but besides that, this horn should be very easy to own and play.
