You might spend your whole life ducking into pawn shops and antique stores, and never find a nicer alto than this. I specialize in finding these, and this is still one of the cleanest ones I have seen. It has no dents or dings, almost all of its original lacquer intact, nearly no play wear, and only one key guard foot has been resoldered, with no other repairs. Super 20’s of any kind are hard to find, because way fewer were made than Mark VI’s or Conn ‘Artist’ Model saxophones, but this one is especially beautiful even among those that are out there. It has old pads and needs a repad, and then it will be about as fun an alto to play as you could possibly ask for. I play a Super 20 myself on alto, and even though there are lots of good altos, I just don’t think it gets much better than Super 20’s on alto. It’s that classic Cannonball Adderley alto tone that I just can’t get out of my head. That’s what jazz alto sounds like. Or at least, it’s not a bad place to start when discovering your own sound. I’m pricing this on the low side so you can get it overhauled well and still be into it for less than a generic new Selmer, which is doing pretty well for one of the best altos ever made.
